“December 7, 1941 a day that will live in infamy!” - FDR. For our Thanksgiving trip to Hawaii with the basketball team we went to Pearl Harbor, and visit the USS Arizona. It was great to pay my respect to all of the men and women that died that day. #PearlHarbor #WWII

Confederate brigadier general Maxcy Gregg died at Fredericksburg, Virginia from wounds he received two days earlier from the battle. Fiery and uncompromising on the issue of slavery and state rights, the South Carolina lawyer had been an early and ardent proponent of secession. When war came, Gregg, like many pre-war politicians, sought a place at the head of his states troops. Having voted to take his state out of the Union, he was willing to fight...and die...to keep it out. On December 13, At 1:30 p.m., a little more than an hour after Union troops began their assault on Marye's Heights, Gen. George Meade's division attacked Prospect Hill. When Union troops broke into the woods, Gen. Gregg at first misidentified them as Confederate pickets. He ordered his South Carolinians to hold their fire....a fatal mistake. A Union bullet struck Gregg in the side, piercing his spine. The dying South Carolinian, in a deathbed message to the governor of his state, reflected the guiding spirit of his political and military life. "If I am to die at this time," he said, "I yield my life cheerfully, fighting for the independence of South Carolina." Robert E. Lee wrote to South Carolina Governor Francis Pickens: “The death of such a man is a costly sacrifice, for it is to men of his high integrity and commanding intellect that the country must look to give character to its councils, that she may be respected and honored by all nations.” @confederatetruth #civilwar #rebelflag #thesouth #southern #memes #noquarter #countrymusic #countrygirl #countryboy #unitedstates #history #secfootball #collegefootball #nfl #pearlharbor #2ndamendment #usnavy #trump #maga #gop #merica #meme #republican #usa #navy #dixie #conservative #confederate #veteran #confederateflag
