Tonight I got my fellow brewheads @copezar and @troy_bautista together to watch some Olympic events and try some great brews. After starting with the Shaun White IPA from @royalcitybrew (the obvious choice for Olympic viewing), we dove into a trio that Troy picked up during a recent trip we took to @abe_erb. The first, Midnight Oil Coffee Porter, was a smooth, sweet experience. The standout feature of this brew is the absolutely intoxicating aroma of coffee that wafts from it; the last time I smelled a beer this excellent was the Tuff Guy Coffee that I brought back from @begylebrewing last summer. The second brew, Settle Down, is an ironically-named pale ale (it is closer in hue to a light Amber) infused with coffee. This one was lighter in coffee notes than the previous one, but definitely a brew that gets more pleasurable the more you sip. The final beer, The Slow Burn Smoked Porter, is a lovely dark brew with strong smoky notes that I could definitely see myself enjoying following a steak dinner. All in all, a lovely series of brews to try with a lovely group of people.
