I really like coaching this kid @lachiegleeson and the potential he has to become an elite footballer (shout out to @johnglee14 ✊️) ! @lachiegleeson is an ELITE endurance runner but has hired to physically develop the opposite side of the metabolic continuum- the neural side (strength, power)
I love working with athletes that have never touched a weight in their life and or never been in a high performance program ✊️
The athlete is a blank canvas and training during this time can be general and transfer to all facets of athletic performance (speed, power, confidence etc)
I want to educate you all on coaching and developing this demographic of athletes - the novice
Remember this - ALL athletes have a “genetic” ceiling to how far their strength gains can go! Some are more gifted than others - some athletes were born for endurance, other strength & power - in saying that tho every athletic attribute can be trained unfortunately genetics dictate ALOT (hence why the fitness industry is flooded with people who look good but have the IQ of a busted door knob) if you don’t believe me find out how many white Caucasian males their were in the 100m final at the Olympics?
When a novice starts lifting not only are gains FAST but improvement in other vital athletic qualities improve due to strength (& technique) being the foundation to all other bio motor qualities
It’s during this time which I call “free” gains that the athletes window of improvement is so LARGE
Many rush this process and really fuck this time up! Think of it this way you go on a first date to @rivastkilda with a really hot blonde buy her roses what do you do on the next date? You can’t really go better than that! @kthalst 🤣 same as training you do not want to go to complex to soon because when they plateau (which they will) you have used all your complex programming and you have no where to go
