Good Morning IGFAM, your boy ended the up in the 5th spot 🤷🏾♂️. Can’t say that I’m thrilled about it but can say we brought it. I️ don’t focus on negative for very long so it’s onward and upward. Salute to all the champions who competed at the @ferrignolegacy . Today will be a travel day and just relaxing and eating some good food. Congrats to @feddymoe on the W #salute and Tristan @tjmurray_ifbbpro_ on the second spot @jetfit for getting that 3rd spot and @obeythebolt James for that 4th place snag. Do you go to the gym and get on the treadmill, eyeing the barbell in the distance, wanting so badly to get underneath it but you are too afraid?
That was me too. Scared I’d look stupid. Scared I wasn’t going to do it right. Scared I’d go down into a squat and not be able to push the barbell back up. Scared someone would laugh at me.....
I get it!!! When you are a beginner in the gym and you are teaching yourself through YouTube videos and by pictures, it’s intimidating as hell to try new equipment. However, if you don’t try, you’ve already failed and I know that isn’t what you want right?! Well, for starters, break the habit of making the treadmill your first stop in the gym. Start instead by going to a place, even if it’s in the locker room, to stretch and get your muscles warmed up. Once you are ready to try barbell squats here are a couple of things to keep in mind to help build your confidence. -Pull a bench under the rack so that when you go down into the squat your butt barely hovers over the bench. This will help you learn proper form. -On a typical Smith Machine, like the one I’m using, the barbell weighs 15-20 lbs. with no plates. Doesn’t matter if your gym has Smith Machines or a free weight barbell, start off doing squats just using the bar to get comfortable. Try adding weights in 5 lb increments until you are able to lift the weight and get in 10-12 reps. I’m lifting 50 lbs in the video and since I’m still just a beginner, this is very comfortable for me to get in 4 sets of 12 reps. Remember, tell yourself you are in PROGRESS, of becoming a barbell badass and in no time you’ll be the badass you see in your mind!!!!
