Yesterday, the Rays, Diamondbacks, and Yankees made a three team trade.
Dbacks get: OF Steven Souza, P Tyler Widener
Yankees get: 2B/3B Brandon Drury
Rays get: P Anthony Banda, 2B Nick Solak
Diamondbacks: After failing to resign JD Martinez, the Diamondbacks needed to replacement in a hurry. Souza is a tremendous plan B for Arizona. He hit .239 with 30 Hr and 78 RBI. He has one of the best eyes in all of baseball, and knows the strike zone very well. He plays the game with a lot of passion, and is a good guy in the clubhouse. He should have a Great year hitting in Chase Field.
Yankees: The Yankees are premier contenders to win it all this year, but still had some holes in the infield. They have young guys such as Gleyber Torres and Miguel Andujar almost ready for the big leagues, but can’t count on them to contribute right away. Drury is a solid utility infielder, and can be flexible depending on how the Yankees young infielders develop. He hit .267 with 13 HR and 63. He adds another piece to an already stacked lineup.
Rays: Banda was the Dbacks #2 prospect. He appeared in 8 games, starting four and posted a 2-3 record with a 5.96 ERA. Solak was the Yankees #8 prospect. He has a solid bat, hitting .301 in A+. However, his fielding is currently below average. Both Banda and Solak are middle tier prospects, and most likely will turn into role players. Interesting trade, but not one I like for the Rays. There are a lot of tensions with the Players and front office right now, and another questionable move was not needed.

According to Jon Morosi, Bobby Evans said that there is “mutual interest” in an extension, with Madison Bumgarner, but there is no active conversation at the moment nor a timetable to start firm talks.
Bumgarner has a bit of a down year last year, going 4-9 and posting a 3.32 ERA. He only made 17 starts due to a shoulder injury caused by a dirt bike incident that forced him to miss most of the first half. Therefore, the down year shouldn’t be too much of a concern and Bumgarner looks poised to have a bounce back season in 2018. Obviously the injury has had a say in these extension talks, as the Giants want to make sure Bumgarner is still as dominant as he was before the injury. I think I speak for all Giants fans though, when I say that Bobby Evans needs to get this deal done immediately. While the Giants have a $12 M club option for 2019, Bumgarner’s potential free agency is getting closer and closer by the day, and it will be a great relief for both parties to get a deal done as soon as possible. Especially since the Giants May be able to extend him at a cheaper price that usual, since he’s coming of an injury shortened season. A extension has to get done by next offseason at the very latest as it is definitely in the Giants’ best interest to make sure Bumgarner remains a Giant for life, and never has to be tempted by big money offers by other clubs in free agency.
Like I said, I need me a baseball player.
