NIGHTCLUB SUNDAY at Modernway: today’s post is preview of part of a documentary I am making about the great Las Vegas Lounge acts during their heyday in the 50’s thru 70’s . THE MARY KAY TRIO are often considered the founders of the Las Vegas Lounge , starting in 1953 at the Last Frontier . Consisting of Mary , her brother Norman and comic genius Frank Ross . Mary was often called the First Lady of Rock n Roll due to her masterful guitar talent . She was so great that Fender produced a special guitar , the Mary Kaye Stratocaster just for her ! The act was the first really wild over the top combination of great music and manic comedy in the lounge that was to become a staple with other acts to follow like Louis Prima and Keely Smith . As with most great lounge acts , film clips rarely do them justice , as live the energy was insane . Starting at midnight and going until sun up it was an all night party with Vegas headliners from the strip hopping up in stage to have some fun . The Mary Kaye trio started what was to become one wild ride of amazing talent in Vegas until corporations started taking over and replacing the Lounges with more lucrative slot machines . Keep an eye out for more clips from my work in progress NOW APPEARING IN YBE LOUNGE #marykayetrio#lasvegas#vintagelasvegas#lasvegaslounge#loungeact#fenderguitar#fenderstratocaster#vintagevegas#nightclubs#vintagenightclubs#louisprima#keelysmith#donrickles#waynenewton#buddygreco#ratpack#modernway
Innocent Blood (1992) Directed by John Landis.
Don Rickles as Emmanuel 'Manny' Bergman.
Make-up FX by Steve Johnson and crew. Did you work on this scene @bcorso
Originally, Jack Sholder was set to direct Lara Flynn Boyle and Dennis Hopper in the film. After Sholder backed out, due to creative differences, John Landis stepped in and replaced Boyle and Hopper with Anne Parillaud and Robert Loggia, respectively. Landis himself had been set to direct another vampire film for Warner Brothers and Joel Silver, called "Red Sleep", starring Wayne Newton as a Las Vegas lounge singer who is bitten and seduced by a female vampire. When the failures of Landis' Oscar (1991) and Silver's Hudson Hawk (1991) killed that project, Landis moved on to this movie.
