Father Figures is comedy from late #2017 about a set of Fraternal twin brothers who learn that their mother has been lying to them for years about their supposedly deceased father, so the brothers hit the road and travel all around the country trying to find out who it is.
Im a really big comedy movie fan, i would say that this genre is my specialty, we were so spoiled in the 90s, 00s and beyond that it makes me judge most new comedies very harshly in comparison to the classics. In the last 5 years the Genre as really struggled, producing about 1 really goos comedy for every 5 made on average(my own made up math).
So i was 50/50 with excitement for this one i did want to see it but wasnt super impressed with the trailers.
The writing for this wasnt great, the story was simple, the run time was way too long and had a very cookie cutter seen it all before feeling to it. There were a few moments that made laugh and some that even made me laugh hard, but the length of the movie put large gaps of nothing between all the jokes, some moments of this push the vulgar jokes way, way to far to the point they stop being funny. The only scene that had me really going was when they meet Kat Williams. Theres also a much more sad and dramtic story at the root of this movie that keeps popping up every now and then and really comes out in the last 12 minutes or so.
The directing is blah, meh, whatever and the tone is all over the place..... thats it, so stop asking.
The acting is mediocre AF, Owen Wilson and Ed Helms are both good and try their hardest to make you laugh at the poor writing. Katt Williams is Hilarious and the best part of the movie, Glenn Close basically takes the paycheck and runs . The rest of the cast has Terry Bradshaw, Ving Rhames, J.K. Simmons, Harry Shearer, Retta, Katie Asleton and Christopher Walken.
In the end this movie is just a very mediocre comedy that is purely a #netflix or Bargain Bin Movie.
