Happy 77th birthday to my dad, and happy spring to all! This photo was taken in 1959 in Prairie Village, KS, when he was a student at Georgetown University. The following year, June 9 1960, he would happen to be walking by the Cherrydale Drug Fair in Arlington where a sit-in was taking place, and decide to join in. That was the beginning of a life of social justice advocacy. Did this fresh faced kid have any idea his life, and the world, we're going to change so soon?

Triple Chocolate Layer Cake, with the loveliest light catching it's ripples. I'm prepping for a chocolate themed recipe tasting and book signing tomorrow, this cake heading it's way there along with some other decadent treats. I wish you could all come along!
For all that have been asking on some progress about my Mum's chair - here goes. The chair that my Mum was given recently was a trial. She was being assessed in that chair to see how she responded to being up and out of bed (she's been bed bound for 12 months), seeing if being with others made an impact to her daily life and her well being - which of course it did, in fact it was so beneficial that I felt it was like she was coming back to life! I wrote more in detail about this in a previous post. With the trial over and the chair now handed back, an assessment report has been filed. The OT who filed the assessment has indeed established that the chair is super beneficial to my Mum's well being and quality of life. A financial quote has been passed to the care home so they can order and pay for my Mum to have her own bespoke chair.
The bottom line is that the chair is very expensive, and the manager has had to pass on the quote to their head office. I am obviously doing my best to make sure she gets her chair as soon as possible and I wil keep you posted. When I phoned today to check on the progress (and while I won't repeat the phrase used), I will say it's not sounding promising. However, before I go all guns blazing I will wait for a definite answer and question that answer should it be a negative one.
I will fight her corner. Everyone deserves to be cared for properly, everyone deserves to be with others and not restricted to 4 walls and a single bed - 24 hours a day, more so those that can't speak up, get up or stand up for there own rights. I should know by next Tuesday.
Keep your fingers crossed 🤞
