Here's yet another #Throwback picture to my first MMA fight that took place on 11/11/2016, somehow 14 months ago even though it feels like it's been a decade with the insane amount of improvement and growth I've undergone since. The me of now would decimate the me of back then. Sadly, I didn't get the result I wanted, but what I did get was a great learning experience and awesome memory.
Story of the fight was a back and forth stand up war, definite excitement for the fans, but what killed me in the end was the fact that as I began to fade in the second round, he began turning it up and pouring it on. He is one tough slugging motherfucker... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now, cue the "excuses": I took this fight on 20 days notice, and before I accepted the fight, I was on one of my "off periods" where I wasn't even on the mats in the gym getting sparring and grappling rounds in. I had been on break from Prospar for a couple of months and when I took the fight with 20 days notice opposed to 60-90 days like a proper training camp. I was very unprepared PLUS inexperienced and that inexperience had me in a cocky mindset where I didn't fully understand the importance of proper and efficient preparation. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I could go on and give many more reasons or "excuses" as to why I didn't perform at my best, but regardless, I took an ass whooping and I'm better and wiser because of it, and my best now is levels beyond what my best was back then. Soooo moving on and moving forward...and maybe one day we will run it back and go to war again but as of right now, I just wanna get back in that cage again already... Been too fucking long.
