i find it interesting how giorgio de chirico doesn't get talked about or appreciated enough. at least among legends. chirico is easily one of the greatest artists of all time to me and he was a hugely pivotal figure in the art world, particularly during the early 20th century. chirico and his masterful metaphysical art was one of the biggest influences on the entire surrealist movement that would follow. this italian genius would capture so much heart within emptiness. he often portrayed abstract concepts, empty buildings and faceless mannequins. like this painting here "the painter's family" shows an expressionless group of mannequins that show emotion from the brush strokes. this is a more literal depiction of time, but chirico was a master in painting the metaphysics of the universe in creative ways. here we see buildings emerging from the baby, this represents the building blocks and various stages of its life. we see a snapshot that is fluid within the continuum of time. that, is the art of a dream state.
