During #WWII thousands of Canadians served in the armed forces, in some cases, a whole family would sign up. This #potd is of RCN Chief Petty Officer Layer Rating 2c Ira Johnson and his mother and father (in army uniforms), 1942 (photo source: forposterityssake.ca).
Non Scale Victory
I always say that it’s not just about the number on the scale or bikini pix but sometimes it’s hard to SHOW other progress.
Taking care of yourself inside and out has SO many benefits.
One that is near and dear to my heart is being able to donate blood.
For pretty much my whole life I wasn’t able to. From the very first blood drive I attended at my high school til a little over a year ago my blood failed every time. I hadn’t tried in years because it broke my heart every time and i had just sorta given up on ever being able to. My counts were just never high enough.
I had a bunch of tests when I was younger and while my counts are ok for me they just run low and taking iron didn’t do anything. My body wouldn’t absorb it.
As someone with O Negative who really wanted to give that just didn’t seem fair.
Imagine my surprise when I decided on a whim to try last year!! I don’t think they had ever seen someone so happy to pass their little test!! I still get nervous because it doesn’t work every time BUT these days I’m able to donate more often than not and THAT means the world to me.
There is a big demand and a big shortage right now so please, if you are able...consider making a donation!! You could help save a life.
