Just saw Annabelle Creation. My phone died before the movie why I'm posting now. But I actually really enjoyed it, I haven't seen the first Annabelle but I feel I didn't need to to enjoy this. This is a very scary movie, with some good acting. Now the audience, well while I did enjoy the movie, there was this one group of people that kept talking non stop commentary throughout the entire movie about what was happening. I don't need commentary from you if I want it I'll get the Blu-Ray. And there were these group of teenagers who felt the need to randomly come in during the trailers and speak at the top of their voice, now luckily when the movie started the manager kicked them all out, cause they were being incredibly disruptive. Overall, I enjoyed this movie more than I thought.

So, the premise for Creation is simple: a married couple welcome a group of orphan girls into their home. Said couple also lost their child in a tragic accident years prior. Ensue spooky goings-on.
This is one creepy ass film. It's not quite "beads of sweat running down your back" scary like The Conjuring 2, but it's definitely "hiding behind your fingers when there's a dark hallway" scary. You can really tell it's done by the same director of Lights Out, too, because the way this man plays with the lighting (or lack-thereof) in Creation is just chilling. It's so eerily shot that even when it's daylight, it still doesn't stop your heart from racing, and that's when you can tell you've got one hell of an atmosphere.
Other than the wonderful mood it pretty much immediately establishes, I'd like to just mention how bloody fantastic the child actors were. They carried the film exceptionally, better than most adults would in a horror film. They were also the stupidest, yet bravest, fucking kids in the world. Like, I was definitely safe from demonic possession as a child. No way 10 year old Kerry was staring into dark corridors and opening locked doors, no siree.
Having said that, I think the script itself was incredibly good for a modern horror. The dialogue was cute, premise was simple and yet compelling, and again, the lead actors really ran with their roles. The jump scares I can live without, but Creation feels like a solid little Horror that's definitely worth the hype it's receiving.
Certainly one of the more fun times I've had at the cinema this year, despite what my thumping heart would've had you believe. Fuck that after credit scene though. I don't want any of that, no thank you, Mr Wan.
