Author: James Joyce
My Rating: 2.4/5
Genre: Modern Classic . .
I always feel a bit bad when I rate a classic very low, but I just could not get into this collection of short stories. The fact that I needed to write and essay about it sadly didn’t make me like it more. I normally enjoy reading “old” literature and especially like writing style and language, but it just wasn’t the case for this.
I am aware that capturing the feeling of the ordinary lives of the 20th century Dublin was precisely the authors intention but to me it was just boring. The theme of paralysis though was exceptionally written, and it made me like some of the stories; especially “The Dead”, a bit more. What also was frustrating is that the tales just stop instead of ending which made the experience deeply unsatisfying. The book is in no way terrible, it just didn’t take my fancy. .
Day 23 of #octoberlibrary17 - Fairytale day!
I chose A Court of Thorns and Roses for this one. This book is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast, in which Feyre is Belle, and Rhysand is the Beast (and Tamlin is totally Gaston).
I loved these books so much, the whole trilogy. I mean, Faes are amazing, I love reading about them and how every author has different stories about them.
I really hope this week will be better than last week. I'm going to see American Assassin with my best friend tonight. We both love Dylan O'Brien so that should be a blast . And then I won't be home for the rest of the week!
Hello, I just quickly wanted to talk about my username. I have realized that many might not understand it since it's in Hindi. So *drumroll* my username means "books" but the plot twist is that normally, one would write it as kitabe so I decided to write as kitabae meaning "books before anyone else" i know i am so smart ♀️
