"The town kept its secrets, and the Marsten House brooded over it like a ruined king."
#circleofbookishfriends - vampires
I try to use King as little as possible in these challenges because otherwise I would use him for nearly every one. But since I don't read a lot of the vampire genre, and the only other vampire book I've read I posted yesterday, so here we are It's an amazing book, so it's quite alright with me.
#grimdragon day 23 - violent books. I LOVED this book. I've had trouble getting into Abercrombie in the past but this book made me want to keep trying. It's everything I wanted in a book about battle. Grit, heroism, loss, cowardice, lots of shades of grey and so much violence. (#grimdark to the max!)
I've tried and failed to get reading friends to give it a go, but it's often dismissed as a cliched fantasy battle book. It's not. Reading of Abercrombie's other work is not necessary to do this one (though I did quickly Google a few characters to get their context).
