Who does organised sports with their kids? It's cricket season for us right now. Yesterday it was "centre of the earth, skin melting, sweat creating, want to die in a hole" hot, or in laymans terms 37 degrees. But in all honesty when you are standing out in the middle of an oval with no shade and Two very energetic toddlers while also trying to be an encouraging mum to the kid actually playing sport, it was enough to think you'd gone straight to hell.
But aside from the heat, we love sports in our family and our town. Being a small population we don't have a great deal of sports to choose from so the kids get thrown into whatever is available. Brayden loves his cricket, and although he isn't going to be the next Australian Fast Bowler it teaches him about being part of a team, teaches balance and skills and techniques that if nothing else will just help with him being a kid. Learning how to throw and catch and keep your balance are vitally important parts of being a happy healthy kid in my opinion. So whether your town or city doesn't offer sports you think your kids will actually excel at, getting them into some kind of organised sport will be only be beneficial to them and to you! .
