Kadhi Vada, Amba Bhavan Coffee Club, Matunga East, Mumbai.
The word Kadhi has typical North Indian associations for me - A semi-thick Punjabi style Kadhi with deep fried Pakodas, that sourness from the curd and the unmistakable use of Hing in the dish.
So I did not know what to expect while deviating from the norm of going in for a simple Rasam Vada. I mean, the Vadas do soak up all the rasam, how would the kadhi fare in comparison?
It turned out quite well actually. The Kadhi was much milder in terms of sourness and was light on the use of spices as well, but worked with the Vadas. It may not have permeated the porous surface fully, but the idea was to break down the fried goodness, dunk them in kadhi, and savor them. Would happily order them again.
