From @peeweeherman. SOON. A life of leisure, as seen here as well as aboard the starship in WALL-E, should be the goal of humanity. And everyone could live like that. But instead, those at the top will almost surely try to keep the rest of us poor and subservient, as they always have. We will, if we must, fight to ensure that we all benefit from machine labor. Or we will live like rats fed only by the scraps cast off by the wealthy.
BTW, if you thought the environmental message of WALL-E was meant to make life on the Axiom seem evil, I suspect the creators behind the movie were a bit confused. Yes, jettisoning all that waste is bad, but to toss that much every day, they must bring in at least as much. So where is it coming from? They clearly didn't bring it with them because they were only supposed to be gone five years, not for centuries. Are they harvesting gas from the nebula? If they can do that, then recycling all that waste should be a no-brainer.
