With everything that's going on in social media, the news, the world... this needs to be put out there. As a women, I get it. I get feeling like men are the ones who do this to us. But so often it's also done TO them. And so many of them keep silent. So when you're seeing all the #metoo posts, remember it's #themtoo because they might not have the courage to speak out about it. #lovealways#noroomforhate
In light of recent events that have occurred on campus, I vow to stand by all POCs inside and outside of BC, particularly those who identify as black.
What does that mean, to vow? It means to not just go to one rally and then discontinue efforts. It means to not just post one status about racial injustices and then forget about it. Racism is an ongoing problem that MUST be fixed.
At yesterday's rally, my friend Young Kim made a very good point which gave me and most likely other Asians/Asian-Americans a reality check. We are often stereotyped as passive and quiet, resulting in our "model minority" status in America. Let us not forget that we are people of color. Therefore, we need to stand by our brothers and sisters, not just within our race.
I know that I haven't done enough, and I am going to change that. What about you?
