GIVE ME SOMETHIN’ TO DANCE TO! And someone to dance with!
Playwright-performers Jessica Bellamy and Pooja Nansi know very well that hip-hop clubs are the most fun when you've got your ride-or-die by your side.
Ahead of Jessica and Pooja's electrifying new play THICK BEATS FOR GOOD GIRLS, we ask women about their favourite hip-hop nights out with the girls.
“In our time there was this event by NUS called Jam and Hop that we always looked forward to. That was where we were first introduced to hip-hop. And then we started venturing to Orchard Towers, to Top Ten and Caesar’s. That was when breakdancing was hot on the scene, and you’d go into the club and form a big circle and all kinds of people would go into the middle and do all the breakdancing moves. Drinks were super expensive, so to make one drink last the whole night, we would just dance non-stop. We’d dance to Wreckx-n-Effect, Run DMC!, Tone Lōc, Naughty by Nature, Cypress Hill... Our best times!”
