So, The Dark Tower is the latest Film Adaptation from the Stephen King novels. This stars Idris Elba, Matthew Mcconaughey, and Tom Taylor. It follows Jake Chambers (Taylor) and his dreams of another world. In that world is the Man in Black (Mcconaughey), a character descibed worse than the devil, trying to destroy "The Dark Tower". A device that holds the balance between worlds. Chambers and the Gunslinger (Elba) are the only ones to stop him. First off, I'm a fan of Stephen King adapted films. They're hit and miss, but the hits are big hits. But unfortunately this film is a bit forgettable. The first half is pretty slow, with underwhelming characters with poor development and an uninteresting plot that didn't really grab me. This will be adapted to a TV show, and perhaps it'll flesh out better. The second half kicks in and it's more interesting, but doesn't step up. I say it's fine. I'm a big fan of Elba and Mcconaughey, there character types were interesting, their performances were good, not their best, but there characters were touched upon and not fully fleshed out. The Man in Black was a cool character, but, unfortunately, wasn't memorable. I did enjoy the Gunslinger fight scenes, but there were so many cuts. In the end, The Dark Tower wasn't great, it wasn't bad, it just wasn't memorable, and the ending was a huge let down. I'll give The Dark Tower a C-
Finally saw #thedarktower tonight and I'm surprised that the response has been so negative. Realistically, what were ppl expecting? Its an epic book series condensed into one movie. Yes, they cherry picked character's from the books as the writers sought fit. They took a lot of creative license to make their own story. It wasn't great but it certainly didn't deserve the 17% given on rotten tomato.
