Here are my tight end rankings.
Best Tight End: Dallas Goedert South Dakota State. I will give Dallas a full break down when I spot light him in my next video.
Most Overrated Tight End: Hayden Hurst South Carolina. Career Stats: 100 Receptions, 1281 Receiving Yards, 3 Receiving TDs.
Hayden is one of the cooler stories in the draft. He originally played baseball, and was drafted by the pirates. He had a change of heart when he was 23, and decided to go back to school to play football. He will be a 26 year old rookie, as weird as that sounds. I think Hayed is a really well rounded player. He is a solid blocker, finds the soft spots in zones, good hands, and can run routes. How ever I think he is being overrated by the main stream draft media. Daniel Jeremiah mocked him to the ravens at 16 in his latest mock and I think that is way too high. He is more of a second round player to me because he is a piece, not the piece. I don’t think he is a game changer, if he is an offense’s number 1 target. I think Hayden has a really high floor, but I don’t think he is someone you center your offense around.
Most Underrated Tight End: Ian Thomas Indiana. Career Stats: 28 Receptions, 404 Receiving Yards, 5 Receiving TDs.
There isn’t a whole lot of tape on Ian that was available for me to watch, so I don’t have the best idea of his game. I have loved what I have seen so far. Ian is athletic, runs clean routes, has softs hands, and is a willing blocker. He does a great job of creating separation with his body, using his arm to shield away defenders when he breaks off his routes. Ian needs to clean up his blocking technique, and could add some weight to his frame, but I think his best football is ahead of him.
