One of the seven deadly sins is gluttony. What is gluttony? It's overeating, simple. We actually see a rise of people becoming gluttonous and doing these food challenges, where they eat over 10,000 calories or have to eat within a certain time frame. Not only are they committing a grave sin and abusing food God graced them with, but they also will damage their health and wellbeing. Those who watch and enjoy those sorts of videos inflict upon themselves a venial sin at the least, because you're enjoying someone committing a very serious and grave sin for the "fun" or "challenge" of it. Typically, one who is committing one grave sin, simultaneously is committing another sin, and the deadly sin of sloth could easily be paired with gluttony. For instance, one who purposely wastes their time eating away, perhaps for emotional eating, a challenge, or simply boredom, commits sloth as they could be spending time practicing a gift Christ gave them, or doing something productive. Even for the food challenge eaters, they most likely are committing the grave sin of pride as well. I will get more into sloth and pride later, but for the sake of this post's topic, we must constantly be on guard if we ever feel an inclination to just gorge our hearts out. For, eating like a pig definitely is not a title to want or be proud of. So, be moderate, eat with thankfulness, and joy.
