Should you Foam-roll?
The answer is YES. It doesn't matter who you are. The great thing about foam rolling is that you can roll before or after a workout to help break up muscle soreness/stiffness, increase blood flow, help activate your muscles, and help with mobility. -If I am rolling before a workout, I typically stick to the areas that I will be working and try to go through it 4-5 times to help activate. You ideally want to do this before warm-up cardio and dynamic stretching to get the blood flowing to those areas about to be worked. -More often (not necessarily more important), I foam roll after a workout to help break up stiffness and speed the recovery process. The foam roller is basically a cheap way to give yourself a deep tissue massage where it helps break up the tissue to deliver fresh blood flow bringing nutrients and oxygen to come in and begin the healing process. -
Foam-rolling is a super simple and (mostly*) enjoyable routine to add to your fitness plan. * I say mostly because some areas (IT band, shins..) are a liiiitle painful and uncomfortable but that's probably because they need it! . .
What these courageous people do is not just a program for weight goals and it is not limited to any specific age group.
