Anthony Mingo was returning home from a Friday night football game when he stopped and picked up a $16,000,000 Cash Payout Scratcher from the Virginia Lottery. The next day after work, he called his wife Elizabeth to tell her he was on his way home. Her response surprised him. “Hurry up, and come home!” she said. “You need to get here!” “What’s wrong?” he asked. “I think we won $300,000!” was her reply.
She was right. The ticket he’d bought the previous night was the second of the game’s four top prizes to be claimed, which means two $300,000 tickets remain unclaimed in this game. “When I got home, her hand was shaking,” Mr. Mingo recalled.
The Chesterfield County man said he intends to pay bills, take care of his family, and possibly buy his wife a new car.
